Atlantic closed out its 2010 season with a trip to the south to participate in the Carolina Vintage Base Ball Festival 2010, in Huntersville, North Carolina. There would be 6 teams appearing, with each team playing the 5 others, then a championship match between the top 2 teams. Atlantic first played the Greensboro Patriots, a relatively new team, and coasted to a 24-0 victory. Dreambucket went 5 for 5 with a double, a triple, and 5 aces to lead Atlantic. Toothpick (3 aces) and Flash (triple, 4 aces) had 3 hits each. Tree tossed the shutout to pick up the win. Atlantic's second opponent was the Cincinnati Red Stockings. This game stayed close for 6 innings until Atlantic drew ahead with 11 runs over the final 3 innings to take a 16-4 win. TC (2 aces), Shakespeare (double, 3 aces), Money (2 aces), and Pigtail all had 3 hits for Atlantic. Hammy tamed the Red Stockings to gain the victory. Atlantic's third opponent was the host Huntersville Boll Weevils, also a relatively new team, but they certainly didn't play like one as they gave Atlantic a tough battle. Atlantic scored 4 runs in its 1st inning, highlighted by Flash's home run, then turned on the defense to prevail, 6-1, but with much respect for the Boll Weevils. TC led Atlantic with 3 hits, a single, double, triple, and 2 aces. Shakespeare and Dreambucket had 2 hits and an ace each. Pigtail picked up the victory. Sunday's first opponent was the Ohio Village Muffins, a team Atlantic had faced several times in the past. This early morning contest started slowly, but once again Atlantic came through, taking an 11-3 victory. TC (2 aces), Dreambucket (ace), Hawk (2 aces), Butcher, and Pigtail all had 2 hits for Atlantic. Hammy picked up the victory. Atlantic's final opponent was the Greenfield Village Lah-De-Dahs. This was another game that stayed close the first 5 innings, and again the Atlantic bats came through to score 7 late runs to secure the 11-5 victory. Shakespeare went 4 for 4 with 3 aces to lead Atlantic. Toothpick had 3 hits, with 2 doubles and 2 aces. TC, Dreambucket, Flash, and Money had 2 hits each. Pigtail picked up the victory. Atlantic finished 5-0 as the top seed and the Lah-De-Dahs took the second seed on the tie-breakers, so they faced off once again in the Championship Match. Atlantic scored 3 quick runs in its first inning, then both teams put on a defensive show, each allowing the opponent only 2 single runs the rest of the way. Atlantic emerged on top, 5-2, and claimed the Championship. Dreambucket had 3 hits and 2 aces for Atlantic. Shakespeare, Butcher, and Tree contributed 2 hits apiece. Tree pitched the gem to pick up the victory. |
