Hawk reached base 6 of 7 times, scoring 6 aces, while TC reached base all 7 at bats, scoring 5 aces. Tree started for Atlantic and picked up his first victory of the season.

In the first game, Dream had 2 hits, including a double, while Toothpick added a double. In the overhand contest, Dream again had 2 hits, and Wildhorse turned in a stellar pitching performance, throwing a complete game, holding the Roxbury Nine to just 5 runs, for his first Atlantic victory.

W 15-3

Atlantic traveled across the sound to Seaside Park in Bridgeport, Connecticut, to meet the Orators, a new team in their first season. Although Atlantic won both games, the Orators hung in there and showed great promise, and with some games and experience under their belt, will be a tough team to beat in the future. Atlantic took the first game, an 1861 contest, 19-0. Dream and Toothpick led the way with 4 hits apiece. Dream had 2 doubles, while scoring aces in all 5 at-bats, and Toothpick added 3 aces. W 20-11

Flemington Neshanock

1864

W 13-5

The Atlantics kicked off “Old Dutch Day” with a 20-11 victory over the New York Gothams. The weather cooperated beautifully, and the game even drew a healthy crowd. The second match of the afternoon saw the Atlantics tally a 13-5 win over the Flemington Neshanock. Flash led the way with 5 hits, including a double, with Dream and Toothpick adding 3 hits apiece. Several fine defensive plays by Flemington kept the score at 8-5 after six innings, but Brooklyn managed to score 5 insurance runs in the late innings to secure a doubleheader sweep.

6-16-07

Roxbury Nine

1864

W 17-2

1864

W 10-9

For the second year in a row, the Atlantics traveled to the Catskills to play the Roxbury Nine on the grounds of the New York Power Authority, and once again they came away with a doubleheader sweep. The first game was undoubtedly one of the finest that the Atlantics have ever played. Great pitching and impenetrable defense held Roxbury to one hit and zero runs into the seventh inning, and impressive line drive hitting gave Brooklyn a 17-2 win over the Nine. Toothpick led the offensive barrage with four hits, with Dreambucket, Flash, Shakespeare, Hammy, and Wily Mo each hitting safely twice. Game 2 proved to be a much closer match, as the lead changed hands several times. Roxbury pulled ahead 9-7 in the top of the 9th inning, but the Atlantics fought back hard. Nice and Easy tied the game with a single to centerfield, and then Tree ended it with a two-out walk-off hit. Shakespeare led the way with 4 hits and two doubles, and Wily Mo had three hits. Huzzah to the Atlantics for sweeping the always tough Roxbury Nine!

6-24-07

Waterbury Connors

1861

L 8-7

Essex Base Ball Club

1861

W 7-3, 10 innings

The Atlantics traveled to Chase Field in Waterbury, CT to play a pair of 1861 rules games against the Waterbury Connors and the Essex Base Ball Club. In the first contest, the Atlantic bats were stifled by great Waterbury defense, which held them scoreless in 7 of 9 innings. Brooklyn also fielded well, with the exception of a few 5th inning errors. The Connors took full advantage of the miscues, and held on to win 8-7. The Atlantics second opponent, the Essex BBC, also gave their strikers fits, but this time Brooklyn's defense was nearly flawless. The score was tied 3-3 in the bottom of the 10th inning, but the Atlantics took a 7-3 lead behind a clutch leadoff hit by young Zack "Wheat" Van Zant, and an opposite field grand slam by Dreambucket. Essex was held scoreless in the bottom half of the inning, giving Brooklyn a doubleheader split against two very tough opponents. Dream (3 hits, double, grand slam) and Willy Mo (3 hits) led the offense, and Lip pitched his second complete game of the day for the victory.

Flemington Neshanock

1864

W 21-9

This past weekend the Atlantics traveled to Washington, D.C. to participate in a 6 team tournament co-hosted by the Elkton and Chesapeake & Potomac clubs. Their first match on Saturday was against the Fairplay BBC from Maryland. The Atlantics trailed 4-3 after the first inning, but settled in nicely and went on to win by a final score of 9-6. In a game featuring excellent defense by both teams, Dreambucket (3 hits, double) and Shakespeare (2 hits, double) led the offense. Brooklyn played its second game of the day against the Elkton Eclipse, and notched another come from behind win. Down 4-3 entering the sixth inning, the Atlantics laced 6 consecutive line drive hits, and scored 7 aces in a row en route to a 10-5 victory. Toothpick (2 hits) and Dreambucket (2 doubles) sparked the Atlantic offense. Brooklyn’s next game was Sunday morning against Chesapeake & Potomac. Knowing that a victory would ensure them a split in the championship game, the Atlantic offense exploded for 21 aces to give Nice and Easy the complete game win. Dreambucket led the way with 5 hits, including a triple and 2 home runs. In the championship match, the Atlantics faced the Flemington Neshanock, a far more familiar opponent than any of their previous three. Playing their 4th game in two days of intense heat did not seem to effect the Atlantics, who won the trophy game by a tally of 21-9. Toothpick (4 hits) Dreambucket (5 hits, double, triple) and Shakespeare (3 hits, double, triple) provided the run support for Tree, who earned his third complete game win of the tournament. Dreambucket was the offensive force of the weekend, going 15-18 with 2 walks, 4 doubles, 2 triples, and 2 home runs. Huzzah to the Atlantic Base Ball Club, winners of the inaugural Washington D.C. 19th Century Base Ball Tournament!

7-15-07

Oyster Pond Eagles

1864

W 5-1

W 10-1

The Atlantics once again traveled out to Orient, Long Island, to play the Oyster Pond Eagles at scenic Poquatuck Park. Great defense and strong winds combined to make the first game a very exciting, low-scoring match. Brooklyn scored 2 aces in the first inning, and led the rest of the way, holding on to a 5-1 victory. Tree picked up the win, pitching all nine innings. Dream (single, 2 doubles) led the offense, with Flash, Toothpick, and Butcher each adding 2 hits. In the second game, the Eagles' young second nine played an impressive game, but the more experienced Atlantic club cruised to a 10-1 win. Dream (double, home run) and Toothpick (double) each had 3 hits, with Dream also pitching his way to a complete game victory.

7-21-07

New York Gothams

1864

W 18-2

W 16-9

The Atlantics had a busy weekend, playing two games against the Gothams in Central Park on Saturday, and two more against the Bridgeport Orators at home on Sunday. Brooklyn started off with a bang, scoring three times in the first inning before an out was made. They never looked back, cruising to an 18-2 win. Every Atlantic collected at least one hit, and good defense gave the Gothams 8 whitewashes. Hammy and guest player Sean led the way with 4 hits, with Wily Mo and Butcher (double) each hitting safely 3 times. The second game provided much more excitement, with the Gothams holding an 8-7 lead after the 5th inning. The Atlantics fought back to go up 11-9 entering the 9th before scoring 5 times to pick up a 16-9 victory. Dream (double) and Tree had 3 hits apiece to spark the offense.

7-22-07

Bridgeport Orators

1864

W 8-5

L 14-13

In the first game against Bridgeport, the Atlantics offense once again got off to a fast start, with each their first 4 batters tallying aces. These runs proved to be crucial, as Brooklyn wound up winning by a score of 8-5. Tree and Wily Mo each had 3 hits to anchor the offense. Tree also pitched a complete game for his 3rd victory of the weekend. The Atlantic bats got off to another fast start in the second game, scoring twice in the first inning. This time, however, the lead was short lived. The Orators bats exploded as they took an 8-2 lead after 4 innings, which had increased to 14-7 by the time Brooklyn woke up in the 9th inning. The Atlantics scored 7 aces in the frame, but Bridgeport recorded the last out with the tying run on 2nd base to hold on to a 14-13 win. Dreambucket (single, 2 homers), Toothpick (2 singles, 2 doubles), and Butcher (2 doubles) hit well in the defeat.

7-29-07

Newtown Sandy Hooks

1864

W 15-1

W 21-10

Brooklyn ventured to beautiful McLaughlin Winery to play a doubleheader against the Newtown Sandy Hooks. They got on the scoreboard early, tallying 6 aces by the second inning. Great pitching and defense stifled Newton's offense, as the Atlantics coasted to a 15-1 victory. Dream (2 doubles) and Easy had 3 hits apiece to lead the attack. In the second game, Brooklyn fought through a thunderstorm to score early and often. They registered 3 runs in the top of the first en route to a 21-10 win. Dream and Butcher each accumulated 4 hits, with Hawk, Hammy, and TC each adding 2 singles and a double. Tree pitched the distance in the first game, and Nice & Easy hurled all nine frames to win the second contest.

8-5-07

Elkton Eclipse

1864

W 19-6

W 11-10

Last Sunday the Atlantics hosted the Elkton Eclipse for a pair of 1864 matches. They once again struck early, scoring 5 times each in the 1st and 3rd innings to take a 10-2 lead. Tree held off the Eclipse offense, and picked up a complete game 19-6 win. Dream (2 doubles, HR) and Hammy (double) both hit safely four times. In the second game (7 innings), Brooklyn was let down by its defense, and trailed 10-4 by the time they batted in the 5th inning. They battled back, however, scoring twice in the bottom of the 5th, and 5 times in the next frame. Hawk then held Elkton scoreless over the final two innings, and earned the 11-10 victory. Wily Mo, Butcher, Toothpick, and Shakespeare all notched 2 hits in the contest.

8-12-07

Waterbury Conners

1864

W 8-7

L 10-5

This weekend the Atlantics hosted the Waterbury Connors in an 1864 rules doubleheader. Brooklyn scored a pair of runs in each of the first two innings, but neither team provided much offense the rest of the way. The Atlantics took a 7-5 lead into the top of the ninth, but a key error by a hapless atlantic leftfielder who shall remain nameless allowed two Waterbury runners to score. Brooklyn quickly struck back in the bottom of the inning, with singles by Dreambucket and Flash, and a walk-off bound out by Shakespeare, giving them a victory. Dream (2 singles, HR) led the offense, with Goat and Nice & Easy each contributing 2 hits. In the second game, the Atlantics once again scored in the first inning, but this time good Waterbury defense and a remarkably unimpressive hitting display prevented them from tallying another ace until the 7th. It was too late by then as the Connors had already built an 8-1 lead. They held off a 9th inning rally to earn a 10-5 win, giving the Atlantics their 4th loss of the season.

8-25-07

Providence Grays

1884

L 6-5

1864

W 17-6

The Atlantics traveled to Rhode Island for their most challenging weekend of the season. They started off the weekend with an 1884 match against the Providence Grays at Sprague Field in Narragansett. After surrendering a first inning run, Brooklyn scored 3 times in the second, and held the lead until the bottom of the 5th. The Grays tallied 3 times in the inning to pull ahead 5-3. Heading into the 9th inning ,the Atlantics trailed by one, but they rallied to tie the game with two outs. Their exuberance was short lived, however, as Providence scored a quick run to hand Brooklyn a walk-off 6-5 defeat. In the second game, an 1864 contest, the Atlantics bats came alive as they scored early and often. Shakes led the offense with 5 hits, with Willy Mo adding 4 of his own. Tree pitched the distance for a complete game 17-6 victory.

8-26-07

Bristol Blues

1864

W 9-5

L 12-6

After playing 2 games against the always tough Grays, the Atlantics traveled to Bristol to take on the hard-hitting Bristol Blues. Brooklyn kept them at bay with solid defense and timely hitting to win the first game by the score of 9-5. Tree had 3 hits, but Dreambucket was the offensive catalyst, with 2 home runs and a triple. In the second game, the Atlantics found themselves in an unfamiliar situation, as they surrendered a run in nearly every inning. Bristol’s offense proved to be too much for the Atlantics, as they fell 12-6. Brooklyn finished the road trip with a 2-2 record against a pair of very strong teams.

Mountain Athletic Club

1864

W 15-4

On Labor Day weekend the Atlantics once again made the trek to Roxbury, NY, to participate in the 3rd annual Keator Cup. Having won the underhand division of the tournament in each of the previous 2 seasons, they were eager to take the cup once again. Their first game was played at beautiful Kirkside Park against a familiar foe, the New York Gothams. Brooklyn jumped out to a big lead early, scoring 5 aces in the bottom of the first and 2 in both the 2nd and 4th innings, to take a 9-1 lead. The Gothams, however, showed their mettle by fighting back to close the gap to 9-7. The Atlantics then managed 3 tallies in the bottom of the 7th, giving them a few precious insurance runs in their eventual 12-7 victory. Dreambucket (HR, double) and Goat (2 doubles, single) provided the power for Brooklyn. The Atlantics’ second opponent of the day was the Flemington Neshanock. Once again they pulled ahead early, taking a 19-2 lead into the 4th inning. Brooklyn’s defense took over from there, as they went on to win by a final of 29-7. Toothpick (4hits, BB), Dreambucket (HR, 3B, 3 singles), and TC (3B, HR, 3BB’s) led the Atlantic offense, with Shakespeare also contributing a home run. Nice & Easy earned the complete game win in the box. Winning both matches on Saturday gave the Atlantics the opportunity to defend the Keator Cup in the championship match on Sunday, where they again squared off against the Gothams. After being held scoreless in the 1st inning, Brooklyn scored twice in the 2nd and three times in the 4th to hold a 5-1 advantage. Just like on Saturday, the Gothams proved to be a resilient adversary, tightening the score to 9-7 after 8 innings. In the 9th inning, the Atlantics showed some pluck of their own, scoring 3 key runs. They held the Gothams scoreless in the bottom half, securing the 12-7 victory and their 3rd consecutive Keator Cup. Hammy led the way with 4 hits, with Dreambucket (2 doubles, single), TC (2 doubles, single), and Shakespeare (double, 2 singles) also striking the ball exceptionally well. Tree pitched all 9 innings for the victory. Not quite ready to go home yet, the Atlantics decided to play an unscheduled game against the newly formed Mountain Athletic Club. Although they were created as an overhand team, they showed great promise in 1864 style base ball, and will some day become a very tough opponent in the earlier game. However, that day was not Sunday, as the Atlantics took a 5-0 lead in the first inning, and continued to strike well the whole game. The MAC batters eventually caught on to underhand pitching, scoring 4 late runs, but it was not enough, as Brooklyn held on to win 15-4. Toothpick (3 hits), Flash (single, double) and TC (single, double) paced the offense.

9-30-07

New York Gothams

1864

W 21-4

W 25-6

After having nearly a month off, the Atlantics hosted the New York Gothams to an 1864 rules doubleheader. They showed little rust, darting out to a 2-1 first inning lead, and holding the Gothams to one run over the next three innings. In the fourth Brooklyn’s offense erupted to score 7 times. They then added 3 aces in both the fifth and sixth innings to take a commanding 16-2 lead. After surrendering 2 runs in the seventh, the Atlantics countered with 5 tallies of their own to put the game out of reach. Pigtail pitched the distance in the 21-4 triumph. Dream spurred the offense with 4 hits (home run) with TC and Flash each powering two triples. The Atlantics’ bats were in peak form in the second game as well, as they jumped out to an early 7-0 lead. The Gothams didn’t score a run until the sixth inning, and by that point the Brooklyn strikers had already amassed 17 aces. Toothpick (5 hits, triple) led the charge, with Flash (single, double, home run), Hawk, and Wheat each hitting safely three times. Hawk pitched a complete game as a the Atlantics won 25-6.

10-6-07

Providence Grays

1864

W 23-7

1884

L 11-10

This past weekend the Atlantics welcomed the Providence Grays to Smithtown for the first time this season. Brooklyn’s offense once again jumped out of the gate, scoring 4 runs in the first inning, and 5 in the second. The Grays also hit well, tallying aces in the third, fourth, and fifth frames, but the Atlantics’ attack was even more relentless. They scored in 7 out of 9 innings to win by a final of 23-7. Hammy and Toothpick (2 doubles) both had 4 hits, and Hawk, Flash (HR, triple), Shakespeare (triple), Wild horse (triple), and Dream (2 triples) added 3 hits apiece. Tree hurled all 9 innings for the win. The second match, an 1884 contest, also got off to a promising start, with the Atlantics leading 7-3 heading into the 7th. It was in this inning however, that the Grays proved why they are considered one of the best overhand teams in the country. They pushed across 4 runs to tie the game in the top of the inning, and then retired the Atlantics in order in the bottom half. With the game tied headed into the final inning, and the top of Brooklyn’s order due up, the Grays surely knew that they had to find a way to score if they had any shot of winning the game. They collected hit after hit, scoring 4 times to put the Atlantics’ backs squarely against the wall. Brooklyn fought back with three runs of their own (highlighted by Dream’s 16th home run of the season), but it was not enough as they fell 11-10.

10-21-07

New York Gothams

1864

W 18-3

Navesink Sidewheelers

1873

L 28-17

On October 21st the Atlantics played their final two games of the 2007 season at Lenape Park in Southern New Jersey in a day of base ball organized by the Flemington Neshanocks. The first contest, played by 1864 rules, pitted Brooklyn against their crosstown rivals, the New York Gothams. The Atlantics, apparently energized by the delicious pregame meal provided by the Neshanocks, tallied 7 times in the first inning, and twice more in the second. The Gothams rallied to score three aces in the 3rd, but they were chicagoed in each of the final 6 frames. Brooklyn scored in 7 of their 8 at bats to roll to an 18-3 win. Hammy led all Atlantics with four hits, with Hawk, Shakespeare, Dream (2 doubles), and Flash (double) each contributing three hits. Wily Mo pitched the distance for his 1st ever victory. In the second game, an 1873 contest, the Atlantics took on the Navesink Sidewheelers. Although this was only Navesink's 3rd game, it was the seasoned Brooklyn club that played like muffins. After taking a 3-2 lead into the 3rd inning, the Atlantic defense came apart. By the time the smoke cleared, the ABBC had dug itself into a 19-5 hole. They did buckle down and score at least one run in each of the final 6 innings, but sloppy play had already sealed their fate, as they fell by a final score of 28-17.
