Atlantic kicked off its 10th season with a pair of victories over the Waterbury Connors, at Goss Field, in Waterbury, Ct. In the first game, an 1861 contest, Dream, with 4 hits including 2 doubles, Flash, with 3 hits including 2 doubles, and Shorty, with 3 hits, led Atlantic to an 8-4 win. Wildhorse and Hammy each had 2 hits. Atlantic flashed some hand to back up the fine pitching by Hawk, who gained his first victory. In the second game, an 1864 contest, Dream again led the way, with 4 more hits including a double and a triple. Shorty had 3 more hits, and Shakespeare, Hammy, Hawk, and Pigtail each contributed 2 hits. Pigtail picked up the 12-5 victory as Atlantic again displayed its defensive prowess. Especially fine in the field this day were Dream at shortstop, Shakespeare at third base, and Wildhorse in left field. And the rookie umpire, Thumper, did a fine job of calling the games.

Atlantic hosted the Providence Grays for their home opener, and succeeded in sweeping the doubleheader, a rare and difficult accomplishment against the usually superb Gray nine. In the first game, an 1864 contest, Atlantic prevailed 11-6. Shakespeare led the way, going 3 for 3, while Hammy and Willy Mo each collected 2 hits. Dream homered for Atlantic, and Tree picked up his first victory of the season in relief. In the second game, an 1884 overhand game, Atlantic scored early and often as they pounded out a 28-14 win. Wildhorse (double) and Dream (2 doubles, triple, home run) each had 4 hits for Atlantic. Shakespeare, Flash, and Hawk (double) each had 2 hits. Shakespeare pitched the first 5 innings to pick up the victory, leaving the game with a 26-7 lead.

Atlantic ventured into the Big Apple to compete in the invitational Gotham Cup on the Great Lawn this weekend and marched out of Central Park triumphantly. They beat the Flemington Neshanock 33-6 in their first contest,then lost to the Gothams, 11-6, in a game where Gotham played superbly, stopping Atlantic cold without an ace over the last 4 innings. Atlantic and Gotham qualified for the Championship game and met again on Sunday, and this time Atlantic put on the defensive stops to gain the victory, 24-6, and claim the prestigious Gotham Cup. In the first game, guest player Big Dog, from the Cincinnati Red Stockings, went 6 for 7 with 2 aces, while Dream (home run, 5 aces), Toothpick (double, 4 aces), and Shakespeare (4 aces) each had 4 hits. Flash (double, 3 aces) and Trotter (3 aces) had 3 hits apiece. Trotter started and picked up the victory for Atlantic. In the second game, Hawk (2 aces) and Dream (2 triples) led the Atlantic attack with 2 hits each. Gotham stifled the Atlantic offense for the victory. On Sunday, Atlantic exploded, scoring multiple runs in every inning except the 2nd, on their way to the Cup. Hammy led the way with 4 hits (double, 3 aces). Dream and Toothpick each had 3 hits. Tree went the distance to pick up the victory. On the weekend, Hawk reached base 11 times, scoring 9 aces, and Dream reached base 11 times, scoring 8 aces.

Gotham visited Atlantic Park, hoping to avenge the Gotham Cup loss, but ran into an Atlantic team which once again stood its ground with a fine defensive showing. The first contest was a hard-fought one, the score standing at just 2-2 midway through the game before Atlantic took charge to come away with a 9-4 victory. Hawk, Shorty, Willy Mo, and Tree each had 2 hits to lead Atlantic. Trotter picked up his 2nd victory of the season. In the second contest, Atlantic scored in each of the first 6 innings to jump to a commanding 20-3 lead, and coasted to a 22-7 final. Dream (2 triples) and Trotter (2 doubles, triple) each had 4 hits to lead the way. SDK (double), Flash (double), and Tree had 3 hits apiece. Tree pitched his way to his 3rd victory of the year.

The Atlantics crossed the Delaware a few times as they wove their way upstate to a small hamlet called Hancock, to take on the local Nine in an 1855 contest. Atlantic prevailed 21-14 in 9 innings. Dream had 6 hits, with 4 doubles, a triple, and 4 aces to lead the Atlantic barrage of 30 hits. Toothpick (4 aces), Shorty (2 aces), Hammy (double, 3 aces), and Pigtail (double, 3 aces) each had 4 hits. Shakespeare (double) and Tree had 3 hits apiece. Tree went the distance to pick up his 4th victory of the season.

Atlantic took to the road for a 3 1/2 hour trek to Landsing Manor to meet the Roxbury Nine, in what turned out to be 2 closely-fought contests, both of which were won by Atlantic. In the first game, an 1864 contest, the lead switched numerous times. Roxbury went up by 1 in the 9th, and Atlantic tied it with 1 in their 9th. Then Roxbury went up by 1 again in the 10th, but Atlantic scored twice in their 10th to grab the victory, 14-13. Shakespeare led Atlantic with 4 hits, including a double. Wildhorse had 3 hits and 3 aces. Hawk, Dream, and Tree had 2 hits apiece. Dream added to his home run lead with a blast to right field in the 3rd. Pigtail went the distance to pick up the victory. In the second game, an 1873 contest, Atlantic put together a 7-run, 2-out rally in the 4th inning to take the lead for good in a 5-inning curfew-shortened, 12-9 win. Hammy went 3 for 3 to lead Atlantic. Shakespeare, Wildhorse, SDK, and Tree each had 2 hits. Tree pitched for Atlantic and picked up his 5th win of the year.

Atlantic took off for a long weekend, beginning with the invite to Elkton Landing, Maryland, for the Gemcraft Chesapeake Cup, an 1864 era tournament. Atlantic drew the Easton Fairplays in the first round. The Fairplays gave Atlantic a good game which remained close until Atlantic finally pulled away with 4 runs in the 9th for a 15-6 win. Dream and Flash led Atlantic with 4 hits and 3 aces apiece, and Shakespeare and The Kid had 3 hits each. Hawk picked up his 2nd victory. The Championship Game would be against the Elkton Eclipse, winner of the earlier match. Atlantic struck first, and Eclipse held them to 3 runs over the first 3 innings, but then Atlantic stepped up its offense to come away with a 26-7 victory, and the Chesapeake Cup. Dream and The Kid had 4 hits each. Hawk, Toothpick, Flash, Hammy, Shorty, and Nice&Easy each contributed 3 hits. Pigtail picked up the win for Atlantic. After a splendid meal and a quiet rest, Atlantic headed to Flemington the following morning. In the first game, an 1873 contest, Atlantic scored often, in every inning but the 8th, but Neshanock kept battling back, including a 7-run 9th inning before Atlantic finally shut them down and squeaked to a 19-16 win. Shakespeare and Dream had 4 hits each, and Toothpick, Hammy and The Kid had 3 each. Pigtail won his 4th game of the year. The second contest was an 1864 era game, and Atlantic prevailed again, this time playing stellar defense as Trotter limited Neshanock to single runs in the 1st and 2nd innings to gain the 20-2 victory. Shakespeare led Atlantic with 4 hits, while Hawk, Toothpick, Hammy, Shorty, and Nice&Easy each collected 2 hits.

Atlantic returned once again to OBVR, and came away with 2 victories, while losing in a defensive battle to the Waterbury Connors. In their first game on Saturday, Atlantic held Waterbury to 5 runs, but couldn't get their offense going, scoring only 3 aces in their loss to the Connors, 5-3. Dream had a triple, Shakespeare had a double, and Hawk, Willy Mo, and Tree had the only other hits for Atlantic. Although Tree pitched well, holding the Connors to just the 5 runs, he received no run support as Atlantic suffered only its second loss of the season. On Sunday, Atlantic found their offense, banging out 22 hits, and continued their fine defensive play as the downed the Mudville Nine, 17-2. Willy Mo went 4 for 4, scoring 2 aces. Toothpick, Dream, and Pigtail each had 3 hits, while Shakespeare and TC contributed 2 hits apiece. Pigtail picked up the victory for Atlantic. The second game on Sunday against the Hartford Dark Blues proved to be a thriller. Many good plays were made by both teams, and the score stood, 6-4 at the end of 6 innings, in favor of the Dark Blues. Atlantic pushed one run across in the 7th, and another in the 8th to draw even. Neither team could score in the 9th. The Dark Blues scored one run in the top of the 10th, and the game was on the line. Toothpick led off the Atlantic 10th with an infield hit, and continued to 2nd on the overthrow. Toothpick then stole 3rd, and came home with the tying run on Dream's triple. Flash immediately brought Dream home with the winning run on a blazing single down the third base line, his second walk-off hit of the season. Dream and Hammy had 3 hits each, Shakespeare and Flash had 2 hits each. Pigtail went all 10 innings to pick up the 8-7 victory, a total team effort.

Atlantic took to the 'Rhode' again, to Mello Park in Rhode Island, this time to take on the Providence Grays and the Bristol Blues. On Saturday, Atlantic managed to sweep the Providence Grays, besting them 6-5 in the 1884 game and 20-12 in the 1864 game. In the 1884 contest, Shakespeare pitched 8 strong innings for the win, and also led the offense, going 3 for 4. In the 1864 contest, Shakespeare again led the way, going 4 for 6 with 2 doubles. Toothpick, Dream, Flash, Hammy, and Pigtail each had 3 hits, as Pigtail picked up his 7th victory. Sunday found Atlantic at Bristol Common for a doubleheader, where the Blues shocked Atlantic in the 1861 opener, 11-7, before Atlantic gained a split in the 1864 game, 13-3. In the first contest, Hawk (2 aces), Dream (double, home run, 2 aces), Shorty, Tree, and Pigtail (2 aces) each had 2 hits for Atlantic. In the 1864 contest, Shorty had 2 hits including a double and 2 aces, Dream had a triple and 2 aces, and Hawk had 3 aces. Pigtail picked up the win.

Atlantic drove upstate once again for the 2nd Keator Cup Roxbury Tournament held over the Labor Day weekend. Arriving Friday, Atlantic arose Saturday morning well-rested, and took the field against the Gothams, and soundly beat them, 15-4. Flash went 4 for 4 with a double and 4 aces, and Hammy went 3 for 4, to lead Atlantic. Hawk, Toothpick, Shakespeare, and Willy Mo had 2 hits apiece, and Tree pitched for Atlantic to pick up the victory. After a long wait, Atlantic faced a New England Nine in the 4th game-slot of the day. The offense struggled the entire game, and the NE Nine took the 8-5 win. Flash and Willy Mo each went 3 for 3 for Atlantic, with Flash hitting a triple and scoring 3 aces. Toothpick had 2 hits, and Shakespeare and Lip had 1 hit apiece. Although he pitched quite well, Shakespeare suffered his first loss of the season. On Sunday, Atlantic again drew the Gothams, and once again claimed victory, 14-2. Toothpick (2 doubles, 3 aces), Dream (double, triple, 4 aces), Shakespeare (2 aces), and Flash (double, triple) each had 3 hits. Hawk had 2 hits including a triple, and Pigtail picked up the victory. On the weekend, Flash led all hitters going 10 for 11 with 8 aces.

Atlantic finally had a home game after 3 months on the road, and hosted newcomers, the Newtown Sandy Hooks, who proved not to be newcomers to the game of base ball, as they beat Atlantic with a 4-run 9th inning in the first game, 12-10. Atlantic then put on the defensive show in the 2nd game that they're known for, giving up 2 runs in the 2nd inning and nothing else to gain a split with an 8-2 victory. Dream went 3 for 4 with 2 triples in the first game. Hawk, Toothpick (double), Shakespeare (double, triple), and Trotter each had 2 hits. Shakespeare had 3 more hits in the 2nd game to lead Atlantic. Hawk added 2 hits and 2 aces, and Dream had a double and his 7th home run of the season, as tree picked up his 7th victory of the season.

Atlantic welcomed another new team, the Elkton Eclipse BBC, to their home at Atlantic Park, and came away with the doubleheader sweep, 11-2 and 15-3. Dream, with a double and a triple, and Hammy each had 3 hits in the first game. Shakespeare, Willy Mo, and Wheat added 2 hits apiece. In the second game, TC, Dream, and Flash led Atlantic with 3 hits each. TC went 3 for 3 with 3 aces, Dream went 3 for 3 including his 8th home run of the season, and Flash was 3 for 4 with a double. Shakespeare, Nice&Easy, and Tree each had 2 hits and 2 aces.

Flemington Neshanock visited Atlantic for what was Atlantic's final home game of the season. Atlantic continued its fine season with 2 victories, 16-4 in the 1864 game and 24-2 in the 1873 game. In the first contest, Hawk and Flash led the attack with 3 hits and 3 aces each. Toothpick, Dream, TC, and Wheat had 2 hits each. Dream had his 9th home run of the season, while Nice&Easy went the distance to pick up the victory. In the second contest, Toothpick and Shakespeare had 5 hits apiece, and Hammy contributed 4 hits. Dream and Flash each had 3 hits for Atlantic. Tree started the second game for Atlantic and picked up the win.

Atlantic closed its 2006 season with 2 victories over the Flemington Neshanock at Heritage Park in Allentown, N.J. In the first game, an 1864 contest, both teams played some fine defense, as Atlantic scored 4 runs in the 1st inning, 1 run in the 7th, and nothing else. Flemington scored both their runs in the 9th, and nothing else, as the 2 teams combined to record 15 whitewashes. Flash and Hawk were both 3 for 4 in the 5-2 victory, each stealing 3 bases and each scoring an ace. In the second game, an 1873 contest, Atlantic broke out offensively while still playing stellar defense, taking a 22-5 decision from Flemington. Flash had 4 more hits with a double and 4 aces, while Wildhorse also had 4 hits, with 2 aces. Dream and Hammy contributed 3 hits apiece Defensively on the day, TC, Dream and Flash made a number of spectacular one-handed grabs of balls that looked like they were hits for sure. The 2 victories left Atlantic with an incredible 31-5 record for the 2006 season.
