1855

W 18-10 (15 innings)

Atlantic traveled north again to meet the Resolutes at the Ringwood Festival in Ringwood, NJ, for 2 contests, including the first of several 1855 games commemorating the 150th anniversary of the founding of the original Brooklyn Atlantic Base Ball Club. In the first contest, an 1873 game, the teams played close until the end, when Atlantic scored 4 runs in the top of the 9th and then held Resolute scoreless, for only the second time in the game, in the bottom half of the 9th, to take the victory 24-19. Atlantic was led by TC with 4 hits including a double, Flash with 4 hits, 2 doubles, Hawk with 3 hits, 2 doubles, and Hammy with 2 hits, reaching base 4 times and scoring all 4 aces. Pigtail pitched the distance for the victory. The 1855 game, a game which requires 21 runs for a victory, was called after 15 innings due to an impending storm (we cleared the field 2 minutes before the rain started), with Atlantic in the lead 18-10. Atlantic scored 4 in the top of the first inning and never trailed. TC again led the way going 6 for 8 (10 hits on the day) and scoring 5 runs. Dream (home run), Shakespeare (double), and Willy Mo (6 stolen bases on the day) each had 4 hits in the game. Hawk had a triple among his 3 hits and pitched the first 13 innings for the victory.

W 18-9

1873

W 23-10

Atlantic finally got to play on their home field in Smithtown and took advantage as they beat the Resolutes in both ends of a doubleheader, 18-9 in the first 1864 game, and 23-10 in the second, an 1873 contest. Atlantic scored in the first innings of both game and never trailed in either. For the day, Dean went a perfect 10 for 10, leaving him with 11 consecutive hits. Hancock Nine

1864

W 6-1

1894

L 18-14

Atlantic welcomed a new team, the Hancock Nine, to their home, and engaged in two wonderful games of base ball on a glorious base ball day. In the first game, Atlantic put on a defensive gem, allowing only 1 run in the 4th inning, to take the 1864 game, 6-1. At one point, Hancock loaded the bases with none out, and Atlantic stoned them without yielding a run. Hancock also flashed some hand, holding Atlantic to a season-low 6 runs. Well done, to both teams in the field. Tree benefitted from the defensive work to pick up his 5th victory of the season. In the second contest, a 7-inning 1894 game, both teams scored twice in the 1st inning, but then Hancock scored 9 in the second and 5 more in the 3rd to take a commanding 16-2 lead. Atlantic pulled together and held them to just 2 more runs the rest of the way as they tried to mount a comeback. Four runs in the 4th highlighted by Shorty's triple, 3 runs in the 5th, 2 more in the 6th on consecutive hits by Tree, Nice&Easy, and Lip, and 3 in the 7th led by Dream's home run, brought Atlantic within 4 runs, as they fell short, 18-14. Toothpick had 3 hits on the day, scoring 4 runs. And a great job umpiring behind the plate by Trotter, in Atlantic's first 1894 rules game.

Rochester Excelsiors

1864

June 12th turned out to be a great day for base ball, with blue skies, plenty of sunshine, and lots of heat. And well it should be, as it was the annual 'Old Dutch' Memorial Base Ball Day for the Atlantic BBC. This day was dedicated to 'Old Dutch', our fallen leader, one of the founding captains of this team. He would have been so proud this year, this 150th Anniversary year of the original Atlantic team. This was HIS original idea, to just have a fun day, playing base ball, with family and friends, and to top it off with a picnic. So, two games were played, and the picnic followed, and everyone had a great time. It turned out just as 'Old Dutch' had planned it. How fitting!

Roxbury, N.Y. was a perfect setting for a turn-of-the-century event this Labor Day weekend. For Atlantic, the weekend had 2 parts. On Sunday, Atlantic played a special commemorative 1855 game in celebration of its 150th anniversary year. In that contest Atlantic fell to Hancock, 13-12, in the bottom of the 10th inning, on another otherwise beautiful base ball day!
