Elizabeth Resolutes 1864/1873 W 19-8/W 49-18

Atlantics opened its eighth season at home with a doubleheader sweep of the Elizabeth Resolutes. The 1864 game was won by a score of 19-8, led by the Dream and Shakespeare, each with 4 hits. The 1873 game ended in a 49-18 victory. Flash led the way, going 7 for 8 with 2 doubles, 3 triples, and 7 runs scored.

Providence Grays 1864/1884 W 10-9/L 13-3

Atlantics traveled to Bristol Commons in Rhode Island to play the Providence Grays, and came away with a split of the road games. Down 9-6 going into the 9th inning of the 1864 game, Atlantics loaded the bases, and The Dream delivered all 3 runners with a bases clearing triple to tie the game. Sleeper promptly singled to bring home the go-ahead run, and Atlantics held the Grays scoreless in the bottom of the 9th to secure the victory. In the 1884 game, the Grays put on a defensive show, holding Atlantics to 3 runs on 8 hits, in the 13-3 defeat for the Atlantics.

Roxbury Nine 1864/1898 L 14-13/W 11-8

Atlantic split the doubleheader with the Roxbury Nine, losing the 1864 game 14 - 13 in 10 innings, and winning the 1898 overhand game 11 - 8. In the first game, Toothpick (double) and Dream (2 doubles) both went 4 for 5. TC and Hawk each were 3 for 5. In the second game, Toothpick pitched the distance for the victory. Shorty broke his 0 for 12 slump, going 3 for 3 with 2 singles, a double, and a walk.

New York Gothams 1864/1864 W 25-5/W 7-1

Atlantic hosted the Gothams at the Commack Little League Complex, and swept the doubleheader 25 - 5 and 7 - 1. Atlantic displayed it's awesome defense as they whitewashed the Gothams 12 of the 16 innings. Their defense turned several double plays, threw runners out at the bases, and had several outstanding plays in the field, notably by the Dream, Shakespeare, and TC. In the first game, Shakespeare led the attack, going 6 for 6, while Hawk, Toothpick, and Hammy each had 4 hits. In the second game, Toothpick and TC each had 3 hits for Atlantic.

Flemington Neshanock 1864/1873 W 17-7/W 16-8

Atlantic faced Flemington Neshanock's in Medford, and took both ends of the doubleheader, 17 - 7 in the 1864 game, and 16 - 8 in the 1873 game. Atlantic was led by Shakespeare with 6 hits, 4 aces, and Dream with 5 hits, 6 aces. Toothpick and Hammy each had 4 hits on the day, and Hawk and TC each had 3 hits.

Hartford Vintage Baseball Festival

1871 vs Middletown Mansfields W 15-14

1871 vs Felmington Neshanock L 26-25

On Saturday Atlantic traveled to Hartford Conn. for the annual Hartford tournament, by way of 1871 rules. Their first opponent was the Middletown Mansfields, and after jumping ahead early, Atlantic tired and let MM catch them in the bottom of the 8th. Atlantic scored 4 in the 9th, but MM came back with 4. Then Atlantic scored 2 in the 10th, and held MM to one, to win the close fought contest 15 - 14. In the second game, Atlantic fell behind early to the Neshanock, trailing 19 - 3 after 4 and a half innings. Atlantic fought back fiercely, outscoring Neshanock 22 to 7 over the last 4 and a half innings, finally falling short by 1 run, 26 - 25. A great comeback, nevertheless, we had them scared, and the spectators were rooting for us all the way back. Sleeper went 7 for 9, while Hawk went 6 for 8 on the day. Shakespeare, Bullet, Pigtail, and Hammy each had 5 hits, with Hammy hitting a monstrous home run over the distant left field fence, setting the crowd gasping in awe. A great 2 games for Atlantic, despite the one run loss.

Staten Island

1873 vs Elizabeth Resolutes W 30-8

Atlantic met the Elizabeth Resolutes on Staten Island at the Ballpark at St. George, a minor league base ball field, and Atlantic played like a major league team, dominating the Resolutes 30 - 8. Over 200 fans paid their way into the ballpark to witness this vintage 1873 rules game, and came away applauding both the offensive and defensive skills of the Atlantics. Dream led the way, going 6 for 6, with a triple and 6 aces scored. Flash went 6 for 7 with 2 triples. Toothpick and Willy Mo each went 5 for 6. Everyone for Atlantic had at least one hit except for the 'old weeping willow'.

1869 vs Cincinnati Red Stockings W 19-5

1864 vs Ohio Village Muffins W 15-4

1869 vs Cincinnati Buckeyes W 16-3

1864 vs Cincinnati Buckeyes W 23-3

Atlantic traveled to Cincinnati and swept all 4 games : Atlantic over Cincinnati Redstockings 19 - 5, (1869) game); Atlantic over Ohio Village Muffins 15 - 4, (1864 game); Atlantic over Cincinnati Buckeyes 16 - 3, (1869 game), and 23 - 3, (1864 game). The name of the game for Atlantic was defense, the entire weekend, as they turned in stellar play after stellar play. One-handed catches, double plays, and all-out hustle and smart play highlighted the games. And then came the offensive barrage on top of that. TC led the way, going 13 for 20, 4 doubles, 2 triples, and 11 aces scored. Shakespeare had 13 hits, Dream had 12 hits, Hawk and Toothpick had 11 each, Tree had 9, Nice & Easy 7. Although Hammy had a quiet bat, he did manage 2 doubles, and led Atlantic in the field. Even stray pick-up Cincy Mike showed his muckle, going 10 for 15 with 4 doubles and a triple in his 3 games. Honorary Atlantic 'Pick' Dieckmann went 5 for 12 in his 2 games. All total, Atlantic batted .520 with 22 doubles, 7 triples, and the defense whitewashed their opponents 23 of the 32 innings, no doubt Atlantic's best display of winning base ball ever!

Flemington Neshanock 1864/1873 W 23-10/W 33-8

Atlantic took both ends of the doubleheader from Neshanock, winning the 1864 game 23-10, and the 1873 game 32-8. The first game was a balanced attack as everyone contributed to the offense. Atlantic exploded with a 12-run second inning, then the defense took over, allowing only 2 runs after the fourth inning. TC and The Dream each had a triple in the first inning, and Shakespeare contributed with 2 doubles. In the second game, Atlantic again erupted in the second inning, this time with 11 runs. Toothpick went 6 for 7, with 6 aces, and the Dream went 5 for 7 with a triple and a home run. Captains Hammy and Pigtail each had 2 doubles among their hits.

New York Gothams 1864/1864 W 24-6/W 13-11

Atlantic met Gotham on the Great Lawn in Central Park and took both ends of the doubleheader, both 1864 rule games, 24 - 6 and 13 - 11. In the first game Atlantic exploded with a balanced attack on offense. After giving up 3 runs in the first, the defense held Gotham to 3 single runs the rest of the way. Hawk, with a home run, and Shakespeare each had 4 hits. Toothpick, The Dream ( triple), Flash (triple), and Hammy each contributed 3 hits. In the second game, Atlantic scored early and held off the Gothams in their comeback attempt, whitewashing them in the bottom of the 9th when they were threatening to tie it up. The offense was led by Toothpick (triple), and The Dream, with 3 hits each. Hammy had a double and TC used his speed to score 3 aces.

Oyster Pond Eagles 1864/1864 W 13-1/W 8-3

Atlantic sailed off to Orient to face the Oyster Pond Eagles, and came away increasing their winning streak to 11 games. Tree pitched the distance in the first game, giving up only one run as the defense again shone through, winning 13 - 1. The Dream, 4 for 5 with a triple, led Atlantic. TC, Shakespeare, and guest player Dapper Dan each had 3 hits. In the second game, Atlantic prevailed 8 - 3. The Dream (another triple), Shakespeare, and Hawk each had 3 hits. Everyone had at least one hit on the day, except for the Ol' Weeping Willow.

Elizabeth Resolutes 1873/1864 W 26-11/W 26-5

Atlantic met the Resolutes at their new field, Rahway River Park, and dealt them a full 52 card deck, winning the 1873 game 26 - 11 and the 1864 game 26 - 5. In the first game, Shakespeare led the way with 4 hits including 2 doubles and a triple. Hammy (double), Trotter (double), and Sleeper each had 3 hits. TC connected for his first Atlantic home run on a long drive to deep right centerfield. In the second game, The Dream led Atlantic with 5 hits including 2 triples, giving him 3 triples on the day. Hawk, Shakespeare (2 doubles), and Sleeper each had 3 hits. Not to forget, the Ol' Weeping Willow got 4 hits and 2 free passes on the day.

Providence Grays 1864/1884 W 9-2/W 16-11

The Providence Grays visited Atlantic Park on Sept 25, and Atlantic continued with its strong defense, besting the Grays 9 - 2 in the 1864 game. The second game proved more competitive. Atlantic scored early, leading 9 - 4 by the end of the 4th inning, but the Grays slowly fought back, and finally tied the game at 10 all in the seventh. Neither team could score in the 8th, but in the top of the 9th, with 2 out and a runner on first, Atlantic started hitting again, scoring 6 times before the Grays could retire the side. Then, Atlantic held the Grays in the bottom of the 9th, yielding one meaningless run, to take the 1884 game, 16 - 11.

Roxbury Nine 1864/1898 W 8-5/L 11-8

The top rated Atlantics (25 wins) visited the 2nd ranked Roxbury Nine (20 wins) on October 9 and came away with a split of the doubleheader, winning the first 1864 game 8 - 5, before losing the 1898 game 11 - 8. In the first game, Atlantic broke through with 4 runs in the 3rd inning and never looked back, leading all the way. Hammy had a big double in that inning. Dream had 2 hits, including his team leading 17th triple of the year. Tree went the distance, improving his pitching record to 7-0 on the season. In the second game, Atlantic jumped out in front with 4 runs in the 1st and 4 more runs in the 5th. Roxbury fought back slowly, finally tied the score at 8 in the bottom of the 7th, and then scored 3 more times in the 8th to complete their comeback and upset the Atlantics 11 - 8 in the 1898 game. Toothpick and Shorty each had a double in the Atlantic 4-run 5th inning.

Flemington Neshanock/New York Gotham Pick Nine 1864/1864 W 16-1/W 13-2

Atlantic took on the Flem York Gothanocks in the season finale, winning both 1864 games, 16 - 1 and 13 - 2, as they finished their finest season at 27 - 4. In the first game, Toothpick had 5 hits and Dream had 4 hits, including a double and 2 triples. TC (double, triple), Shakespeare ( triple), and Shorty each had 3 hits. Tree pitched to gain his 8th victory on the season without a loss. In the second game, TC led with 3 hits, and Dream hit his Atlantic record 20th triple of the season.
